The Frontières Market in Montreal

Frontières is an international co-production market and networking platform specifically focused on genre film financing and co-production between Europe and North America. It is organised by the Fantasia International Film Festival, in partnership with the Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes.

Our annual 4-day, in-person industry event showcases an official selection of genre projects and facilitates connections between the project teams and industry. The event is reserved for active industry professionals in the fields of feature film production, sales, finance, and distribution.

What Does The Frontières Co-Production Market Offer?

Invitation provides access to all activities including:

  • Live pitch sessions from the selected projects;
  • Meeting and networking opportunities with project participants and a large variety of seasoned professionals from the international genre film industry;
  • Panels and round tables on the latest developments and trends in Genre film production, financing and distribution;
  • A profile in the Frontières Coproduction Market booklet;
  • Access to Fantasia festival screenings and industry events.

Call for Projects

The call for projects for the 2025 edition of the Frontières International Co-Production Market in Montreal closed on April 11, 2025. The 2026 call for projects will launch in early 2026.

FRONTIÈRES MARKET IN MONTREAL

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

- Projects must qualify as feature length;
- Projects must qualify as « Genre » in nature: horror, sci-fi, fantasy, action, dark thriller;
- Projects must be in late development/early financing;

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

- Long version of your synopsis (2 pages);
- Script;
- Director and main producer’s intentions;
- CV of your Director(s), Producer(s) and other key members of your team;
- Budget (including confirmed financing) ;

Your documents can be submitted in French or English.

PARTICIPATION FEE

Participation Fee (paid only if project is selected) : CAD$ 200.

In return for your participation in the Frontières Market and should your film be completed, in addition to the inclusion of the Frontières logo in the end credits of the film, you acknowledge that the North American Premiere should take place at the Fantasia International Film Festival, host of the market. This request will be waived should the film be selected at any of the following film festivals: South by Southwest (SXSW), Sundance, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Tribeca or Telluride. In the event of the film screening at any of the aforementioned US festivals, Fantasia will retain first right of refusal for the film’s Canadian Premiere in the same year.

Travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the participants. Frontières has preferential rates with certain hotels and can help you with your reservation. We will also handle the logistics of round-trip transportation between the airport and downtown Montreal.

Pitching sessions and meetings will be held mainly in English. No translation services will be provided. Selected project team key members must be able to converse comfortably in English.

Scholarships may be available through your national film fund. These scholarships may cover both the participation fee and the additional costs. Please contact your national film fund for more information.
